Shokutei Sushi Restaurant in Shenzhen designed by NATURE TIMES ART DESIGN

To go out to eat, finding a place with a captivating interior design, as well as in harmony with the type of cuisine, are elements that can strongly influence the experience and pleasure of the guests. This is precisely why Sushi Shoku-tei, a Michelin-level Japanese food brand, which chose Shenzhen as the location of its first restaurant in mainland China, told the local NATURE TIMES ART DESIGN studio with the design of its new restaurant. All this, of course, from the vocation of the brand, which scrupulously follows the traditional mastery and craftsmanship of Edomae sushi.
For the project, the design team at NATURE TIMES ART DESIGN studio sought to combine traditional Japanese cuisine with oriental visual elements through the careful use of modern design languages. All this, with the intention not only to inspire and please the palates of the guests, but also to offer them new poetic experiences.
The restaurant’s location on the ground floor of a shopping complex in the Futian central business district of Shenzhen inspired the designers to come up with Natural elements such as stones, trees, earth and plants that define the entrance, which subtly dialogues and balances the modern skyscrapers surrounding the bustling district. The same natural materials are also found in the 200 square meter interiors, perpetuating the idea of ​​being in “a naturally growing” organism “hidden in a quiet corner”, as the designers explain.
Rectangular structures of different sizes and functions define the simple spatial model of the restaurant, where diners can then enjoy their food. Indeed, the pronounced sobriety of the restaurant, in direct contradiction with the opulent optical effects of today and the “instagrammable” spaces loved by the web, but which require frequent “updates”, is synonymous with sustainability as the studio designers explain: “We have given this dining space a sober design and a low profile, in the hopes of making it more durable and sustainable in an ever-changing market.

In addition, the choice of colors and natural materials such as rammed earth, terrazzo, wood, paper and fabric create spaces that are not only pleasantly minimalist, but also bright and serene. Details incorporated into the new restaurant space delicately convey traditional culture and craftsmanship. The street lights in the front area, for example, feature a variable-grain rice paper shade, the selected utensils crystallize the fine craftsmanship of Japanese artisans, while the three-dimensional geometric lanterns in the dining room use handmade silk membranes. .
All in all, NATURE TIMES ART DESIGN’s new Shoku-tei Sushi restaurant is much more than a temporary escape from the daily grind. As the designers – whose approach, imbued with a keen sense of sustainable development, we like a lot – eloquently explain: “Spatial design should not just be limited to creating distinctive experiential consumption scenes for brands, but should also convey positive aesthetic and humanistic attention to the public and return to the essence of life, especially in the era. post-pandemic. “
